Two Dutch organisations HealthNet TPO and Global Initiative on Psychiatry join forces to raise awareness on mental health as an important developmental aid issue. With support of the European Commission the Mental Health Battle 2009-2010 will take place in four European countries: Bulgaria, Lithuania, The Netherlands and Romania.
We invite students and mental health professionals to enter the Mental Health Battle, and write a paper with inventive solutions for dilemma's concerning mental health in developing countries. The winners will be invited to visit the HealthNet TPO mental health programme in Burundi in spring 2010.

On April 7th 2010, World Health Day, GIP and HealthNet TPO are organizing an afternoon conference at which the winning teams of the Mental Health Battle will be announced. On October 14th 2010, World Mental Health Day, GIP will organize a conference in Brussels. The conference will be the final activity of a two year EU project titled: Increasing Recognition of Mental Heath as an Integral Part of European Development Assistance in Four EU Countries. The goal of the project is to raise awareness in four countries of the European Union (as well as at the EU-level and among other development actors) about mental health as a developmental aid issue.
GIP will also be celebrating her 30th anniversary at this event!
On October 14th 2009 GIP and HealthNet TPO organized a Conference on Mental Health and Development Aid in Amersfoort. It was a great succes and there where 90 to 100 people, read more

A GIP conference entitled "Double Stigma - Double Challenge": Putting Mental Health and HIV/AIDS on the International Agenda, was held on 9 November 2007 in The Hague. The conference served as a venue for a lively discussion about the inter-linkages between HIV/AIDS and mental health in Africa, the Caucasus, Central Asia and Southeastern Europe.
